Grandmothers for Grandmothers Mountainview

This group was formed in May 2008 with a threefold purpose.

  1. To raise funds to help alleviate the plight of grandmothers in Africa as they care for children orphaned by the AIDS pandemic. Fundraising shall be done to support the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
  2. To make every effort to promote the Stephen Lewis Foundation in its efforts to help alleviate the suffering caused by the pandemic.
  3. To increase our knowledge of the African continent: geography, history and current conditions especially pertaining to HIV/AIDS and the affect it has on the grandmothers and children in their care.

G4G Mountainview is not officially affiliated with the Carstairs Bancroft United Church but is supported with free meeting space, advertising in the church bulletins and church member attendance at our events.

Members are not required to be a grandmother or live in Mountainview County. A yearly fee of $10.00 is paid once a year and allows full voting privileges. Our goal is to hold one fundraising event per year.

Camp Kasota

Kasota East Camp is owned and operated by the Red Deer Presbytery of the United Church of Canada.  Carstairs Bancroft United Church is one of many churches who volunteers to help keep the camp available to anyone year round.  The camp was established in 1925 and is located on the beautiful shores of Sylvan Lake, Alberta.  It offers a camp program for campers aged 6-15, a leadership program for ages 15-18 and a Family Camp from July through August.  Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing, campfires, drama  and orienteering  just to name a few.  Week-end rentals are available to the general public year round.  The camp has been rented for such things as week-end retreats, weddings, quilting bees and family reunions.  A quick browse of the updated Website will put you in contact with Rental Personnel, easy On-line registration and in-depth information about Kasota East Camp.  We are on the PAR (Pre-Authorised Receipt) system where donations are most welcome.
